Welcome to the Current Middle Ages!
We are the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA for short), a non-profit, educational organization devoted to the study of the Middle Ages and Renaissance time periods. Bringing pictures from history books to life, SCA members re-create the culture, arts, & sciences of the years between 600 AD and 1600 AD. Roughly, from the fall of the Roman Empire through the Renaissance. All forms of arts and sciences are open to study: martial arts such as archery, fencing, and armored combat; fine arts including music, dance, theater, and calligraphy; and domestic arts such as cooking, brewing, and needlework. We hold demonstrations, which are open to the public, as well as events which require appropriate medieval clothing and a properly chivalrous attitude. Event are usually organized around a theme, like a celebration of Shakespeare, or a day in Renaissance Italy. Events can include youth and adult martial combat, arts and science classes, competitions, dancing, feasting, games and singing. Below we have included a selection of information that the new member or curious investigator may find useful. Sylvan Glen Officers - The shire officers and their email addresses. Forward into the Past - An introduction to the S.C.A. What to Wear - A collection of sites on costuming for the Middle Ages. |
